The Ramblings of a Dirty Writer

How I Became a Dirty Writer - Part One

Posted on Thursday Oct 15 0:00:00 UTC 2009

I started out writing as soon as I realised I could, but I was never really what I would describe as an erotic fiction writer.  I started writing seriously many years ago when I studied English in further education.  During these days I was told that my writing was of degree standard, it was engaging and informative.  On the course I was required to submit two pieces of creative writing.  I was fortunate enough to have a very interesting tutor at the time and I was greatly inspired to write fiction.  I was told that it was very good, and I soon started to enjoy all areas of its creation, including: research, drafting and editing.  If you don’t enjoy these area then don’t become a writer!

This love of writing stories extended into my degree years, and during this time I studied a little more creative writing technique, and I was also introduced to a lot of literary criticism, and cultural theory that informed much of my work.  Among my favourites were the writings of Jacques Derrida, Jean Baudrillard, Judith Butler and the seminal papers of Jean Francois Lyotard.  Ever since that introduction, and in between some very dull jobs, I have written articles and short fiction all over the place under another name.

The very first erotic story I wrote was published, and it was called Going for a Thong.  I have no idea what to call the piece so it was titled by Elizabeth Coldwell, the editor of Forum magazine, who paid me handsomely for the story and also provided my pen name.  I was asked for a pseudonym but couldn’t think of one; simple as that.  I asked and Elizabeth provided.  Thanks to her for that; now it’s the name of my website, and indeed my business.  To have your very first story published is an amazing achievement for a writer and since then I have had nothing but encouraging comments about my work, published or not.

I don’t really know what prompted me to write it to be perfectly honest.  I have always been highly sexed and I admit to my share of porno over the years; I know you have.  But it could more than likely also have something to do with my decision to write freelance full-time, and my acquisition of The Writer’s and Artist’s Yearbook 2008.  I flicked through the pages and must have found Trojan Publishing (Forum).  I remember sitting at my PC and typing, and before I knew it I had a steamy story.  It’s really quite strange because the sexual content in the story is not particularly representative of what floats my boat.  It may also sound strange, but during the production of the story, I wasn’t turned on in the least.  All my energies were tuned into the story.  When I write, I shut everything off except my hands and my brain.  It’s probably just as well, or I probably wouldn’t get anything done.  When the story was complete I could appreciate the finished product in its entirety, and also appreciate the creative process that enabled it to reach the end.  Since its publication I have had many requests for more and many compliments on the story’s ability to deliver the goods!

Since Going for a Thong I haven’t stopped clicking away on the keyboard.  I now have a large catalogue of sex stories, and more are appearing each day.  I now have an entire collection of my own stories published, and I intend to write many, many more.  Keep your eyes on the Free Sex Stories list to get internet exclusives.

Thanks for reading.
